Summer Activities

Reasons to Love Summer at Aspen/Snowmass

If you think Aspen/Snowmass is inviting in winter, you should see what summer looks like. Knee-deep powder is replaced by knee-deep wildflowers, and the mood around town shifts from the intimate coziness of winter to the anything-is-possible activity of summer.

Here are several reasons to visit Aspen/Snowmass in summer.

1. Mountain Biking at Snowmass

Are you a fat-tire gearhead? Then you have to try Valhalla, a twisting serpent of berms, jumps, rainbows, bridges and bumps. “Thrilling” doesn’t even begin to describe it. If not, no worries: there are dozens of trails winding through the beautiful aspen-laden forests of Snowmass, such as the popular Easy Rider trail. Four-Mountain Sports will hook you up with the right ride and gear.  Need some tips?  Join our Bike Pros for private biking adventures and/or group downhill clinics.

2. Hiking Among the Wildflowers

The Silver Queen and Elk Camp Gondolas (as well as the Elk Camp Lift) run throughout the summer, giving hikers easy access to the high country. Be sure to also take a stroll around nearby Maroon Lake, where you’ll find the iconic Maroon Bells and one of the most photographed scenes in North America.

3. Camp Aspen/Snowmass

Few things are more rewarding than seeing a child thrive in the great outdoors. That’s why we created Camp Aspen/Snowmass where children of all ages learn about nature and hone new skills such as mountain biking, mountainboarding and more. They can even spend a night out under the stars on Snowmass Mountain while the two of you enjoy a romantic evening in Aspen.

4. Nature Walks with Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES)

To hike through the woods is one thing, but learning how our alpine ecosystem works is quite another. Take an eye-opening walk with a naturalist from ACES and learn the inside story on the unique flora and fauna of our mountains. In addition to occasional wildlife, you’ll be able to spot — and identify — dozens of wildflower species along the way.

5. More Summer Activities

Elsewhere on Snowmass and Aspen Mountain, we feature disc golf, a climbing wall and Eurobungy, a thrilling paintball course, outdoor yoga and even private adventures. Now if only you could have a month-long summer vacation so you could do it all…

6. Food + Wine, Ballet, Cycling & Other Essential Festivals

Finally, if all that on-mountain fun isn’t enough, Aspen and Snowmass feature some of the most celebrated summer festivals in the Rocky Mountain West. It all begins with the FOOD + WINE Classic, a showcase of the world’s finest culinary talents, and runs into fall with other stellar events along the way, such as the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, the U.S. Pro Cycling Challenge and The Meeting.
